Infected Mushroom

How did I get this lucky? The last three big shows I’ve been to have been fantastic and Infected Mushroom was no exception. Wow. Infected is great to listen to on stereo, but their live show beats the shit out of that. They have two types of shows that they do. One kind is spinning with decks like dj’s usually do, but last night was a live show with full instumentals, blaring guitar and live vocals. It was like no other trance show I’ve been to. They worked the crowd up into a frenzy, one thing Infected is known for. They did sets from their new album, Vicious Delicious, and encored with older material like “Converting Vegetarians.” The live, dark metal-like guitar really adds a uniqueness to their brand of psy/Goa trance. It’s something that is probably hard for most psytrance to pull off without it sounding too metal or take away the psychedelic quality, but totally works for the darkness of Infected Mushroom.

Playing at the Georgia Theatre attracted an interesting mix of mostly UGA kids. Totally different from what would be there if Infected played in Atlanta. There were a lot of hippies, tye dye, and Baja shirts. It wasn’t a huge crowd, but not enough room to dance. It was easy to get up front, though. The Georgia Theatre’s light show isn’t that amazing. It was mostly Infected’s energy that got everyone so worked up, but what else can you expect from a group of trippy guys like them? The only drawback was that I think they ended too early. The crowd was still ready for more even after a three hour set. I know I was.

Before I go, I’ve got some great news for all you Rude Boys and Girls. Streetlight Manifesto is coming to The Masqerade on November 20th. Don’t miss your chance to see these ska legends in action.
