Conner Christian at Andrew’s

My internet was down for the weekend, so here’s what I wrote a couple days ago:

Wow, where do I begin? Okay, it’s true that I’m not out to bash artists, but last night was tragic.

Here’s a little background on the bands that played. All of the bands were Connor’s projects. The first one up, 8Bus, toured along side Limp Bizkit and were part of the rap-rock thing in the 90’s. My friend who I went with was their creative director. 8Bus broke up right before they got signed, but Connor did get to literally kick Limp Bizkit’s guitarist offstage before that happens. He gets some rocker points for that. The next band, “Connor,” actually kicked their namesake’s lead out, therefore Connor did not actually perform with “Connor” last night. The Connor Christian Band is the most recent band, but Gruvnhi is defunct as well.

Anyways, on the the reunion.

First, a note on the venue. Andrew’s Upstairs is a nice venue with a cool little stage. It’s very Buckhead, but it’s very cold. So, if you go someday, bring freakin’ jacket.

It was amazing that everyone was in the same room together. Everything started out smoothly. 8Bus started out and made everyone there feel very 90’s. It felt kind of like a high school reunion, in a sense. Almost everyone was there, even groupie girls, but Connor’s DJ and drummer never showed up. They got a substitute drummer, though.

Everything seemed to be fine until GruvnHi came on last. Just to let you know, Connor has kicked members off stage for drinking before, but by the last set, he was smashed and staggering. The set suffered because of it and the bass player got hit in the face by Connor singing the mic around by it’s cord in drunken “rock-n-roll” action. The crowd was laughing and the set dissolved in to a complete joke. There goes the reunion of GruvnHi, maybe better left back in the 90’s. Still, you can check out their stuff up on Myspace and Connor’s new CD, Revival.
